Low Budget Home Security Methods
Home security is
indeed extremely important to each and every one of us, but sometimes we are forced to spend
our money on other stuff that is of priority at that moment. For others, purchasing a high
tech modern home security system is simply out of their budget limits. If youre in one
of these situations, it might be time to start considering a middle of the road
option, which is purchasing a low budget home security system.
Low budget home security alarms
Professional
alarms can often cost a lot of money and although they offer the best protection, a simple,
low budget alarm system will also be extremely useful. Low budget alarm systems have two
major disadvantages over professional alarms, in that they dont use a monitoring
system to alert the nearest police station of the alarm and they are also less reliable.
Although the monitoring issue is probably not that important, since if the alarm goes off,
it will scare the burglar away anyway, the reliability issue is indeed problematic. In order
to avoid it, make sure you test your alarm on a daily basis.
Low budget home security cameras
Professional
security cameras can offer several advantages such as a monitoring system, allow you to
watch live feeds of whats going on around the house through the Internet or provide
night vision support. Still, all these advantages come for a great amount of money so
youll have to think hard on whether or not you need a security camera installed.
Theres always the low budget alternatives of course, two of them being the use of fake
security cameras and do it yourself security cameras.
Fake security
cameras dont actually record anything, the security they offer relies on their visual
aspect. They can mimic the exact look and behavior of a professional camera and that will
often be enough to scare potential burglars away, or at least make your house less likely to
be marked as a potential target. DIY security cameras are indeed cheaper than their
professional counterparts, however they dont offer any monitoring services and they
are less imposing, from a visual point of view, than the professionally installed security
cameras.
Landscaping and lighting
Making sure that
your yard doesnt give burglars any unnecessary opportunities is a reasonable and
inexpensive home security method. Make sure you trim your yard shrubs and trees so that a
burglar wont be able to use them for cover and cut off any branches from trees that
are close to the house, which could act as potential ladders that the burglar would use to
get to otherwise inaccessible areas of your house.
Having proper
lighting in your yard and the exterior of your home is also quite effective in preventing
your house from being chosen as a target, since burglars fear lit areas. Its also
rather inexpensive to install a few basic lighting sources around your house and the
electricity consumption they will produce is negligible, considering the boost in home
security that these lighting sources bring.
